MY EXPERIENCE: LA BOQUERIA MARKET; BARCELONA, SPAIN
Two years ago, I was traveling in Barcelona and I happened to come upon La Boqueria market on what is known as Las Ramblas. I was amazed at the grand size of the market and the wide variety of items I didn’t normally find at the markets back in Florida. I was greeted at first with a giant fruit stand, full of cut up fruits in plastic cups displayed in the front, with freshly-made smoothies alongside it. I grabbed myself a kiwi smoothie to keep me company as I went along the marketplace to find out what more there was to offer- a deli stand, with hanging pieces of meats and cheeses put out in a window display, all fresh and locally made. Stand after stand was lined with local grown vegetables, nuts, seafood, and sweets. There were also restaurants within the giant market, providing a needed rest-and-eat station for those who needed to grab a bite on their grocery trip.
